Luzern Eagles vs Therwill Flyers NLB

The Luzern Eagles were happily welcomed to Therwill on Sunday for a grudge match after the Flyers were swept by the Eagles last weekend in the NLB division.
Re-energized, restock, and re-motivated the Flyers were ready for an all out battle to prove they belonged at the top of the division. The Big Boys in Blue came out firing with 3 runs in the first inning led by hits from their imports, Chris “Bike Pump” Blackbee and “Motoring” Mike Margarucci. After another shutdown inning by Devin “Swaggy Bieber” Flühman. The score was 3 to 0 in the Flyers’ favor after the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the 2nd Marquis “Party All the Time, Party All the Time, Party All the Timeeeeeeee” Richards got on base via fielder’s choice and got the party started with a steal, advanced to 3rd base on a throw, and scored via sacrifice from “Magic” Mike Margarucci. The Eagles responded in the top of the 3rd and the Flyers got shutout stranding a runner on base making the score 4 to 1 after three innings. In the top of fourth inning the Eagles got hot, knocking in 3 runs on 4 hits to tie the game up. The Flyers responded immediately with Marquis “I can hit the high note” Richards once again starting the party with a Rickey Henderson-esque sequence; starting with bunting for a hit, advancing to 2nd on a wild throw, stealing 3rd, and scoring on a pass ball making the score 5 to 4. The Eagles answered immediately taking advantage of an error in the top of the fifth, tying the game at 5-5, where it stayed until the seventh. In the top of the seventh Mario “El Caballo” Cuevas got two quick outs, but the Eagles rallied for 2 runs with two outs, winning the game over the Flyers 7 to 5.

After some strategic planning and delicious lunches, the Flyers were still hungry... for revenge. Game two was a different story as the Flyers were in control the whole game. With Mike “I’m too old for that” Margarucci leading the way with 5 RBI’s and 4 innings pitched holding the potent Eagles to 6 runs (5 earned). Top performers for game 2 included: Marquis “I’ve been doing this my whole” Richards (1 hit/ 2 runs), Chris “The Most Dangerous Bee is a” Blackbee (1 hit/ 2 runs/ 2 IP), Mike “Marathon Man” Margarucci (2 hits/ 5 RBI’s), “The Bash Brothers” Sebastian Zwyer (1 hit/ 2 runs) and David Eichenberger (1 hit/ 2 RBIs) combining for two huge double plays, and Devin “I’m a SS at heart” Flühman (1 hit/ 1 run). It was a highly spirited team effort from the Flyers who were able to win decisively 11-6.
