NLB - Clash of Titans

There was an epic clash of titans at Therwil this past Saturday against the Martigny Minotaurs and the Therwil Flyers of the NLB.

Game 1 saw a rough start for the Flyers with the good guys allowing 8 runs in the first inning.
The tough Flyers scrapped for an answer with 2 runs in the second inning, lead by a double from Tom “I can touch the top of buildings” Lüem, a hit by pitch from Devin “Please put me at Shortstop” Fluehmann, and a double from Jan “June Bug” Fender. Jan Fender continued to dazzle on the field with a slick diving snag, completing the throw from second base off his knees.
The Minotaurs had an answer in the 3rd making the score 13-2 after the top of the 3rd. Pitcher Devin Fluehmann battled reaching his 95 pitch limit and finishing off well after a rocky start. Laurent “Baggy pants” Theurillat and Alberto “Big Papi” Saligari impressed the fans as they held the stampeding Mintours to a combine 4 runs.
The final score of game 1 was 19-9.

After the break the Flyers came back recharged as they scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st, lead by the Chris “The Most Dangerous Bee is a” Blackbee, Adrien “ Daddy Hacks” Reymond, and Mike “Rollie Fingers” Margarucci. Mike took care of work in the first two innings on the mound not allowing any runs, followed by another 2 runs for the Flyers, making the score 5-0 after the 2nd. The Minotaurs scored 6 in the 3rd, but the Flyers answered immediately to take the lead back in the 3rd. The Minotaurs retook the lead, taking advantage of several errors and timely hits in the 4th and added an extra insurance run in the 5th to set the score at 11-7. Chris “Thunda from Down Unda” Blackbee relieved Mike in the 6th and dominated in 2 innings of work with 5 strike outs. The Flyers scored 2 in the last two innings, but couldn’t quite get over the hump, losing game 2, 11-8.

Several players came to fill in on Saturday for a depleted Flyers squad and put up a great fight. Special Recognition for players getting their first hit of the season in their first game with the Flyers this season: Chris Blackbee, Adrien Reymond, Jan Fender, Laurent Theurillat, Alberto Saligari, and recognition to Beat getting on base with a HBP in his first career at bat.
