2011 POST-SEASON NLA poem
The season is over
there’s so much to remember
an incredible summer
a disappointing September
The Flyers were strong
but the Cardinals were stronger
and now it will make
the cold winter seem longer
So what is the cause
of this playoff collapse?
there’s nothing so certain
there’s only perhaps
The umpire’s strike zone
was not always great
but how much that matters
is up to debate
The hitting was off
and the fielding uneven
but the very best moments
gave us much to believe in
The pitchers had innings
with total perfection
and others which led
to our somber dejection
Maybe they’ve needed
more strong competition
to keep them in shape
and in better condition
Maybe they need
to play more against teams
that challenge their talents
to stronger extremes!
To Germany to Austria
to Italy to France!
The Flyers are great
but they need to enhance
their skills against pitching
that’s better than Swiss
so when they play here
it’ll be harder to miss
But speaking as father
as fan and as friend
there’s nothing that’s broken
that you cannot mend
Your talent’s amazing
your future is bright
we’ll again see in April
the Flyers in flight!
I’ll be there in blue
with my food and my noise
and with other great fans
we will cheer on our boys!

Hallo lieber Flyers-Vorstand
Auch und gerade jetzt, wo die Flyers nach dem Meistertitel greifen, nicht zuletzt dank einer Reihe von ehemaligen Cadets, die bei den Flyers gross geworden sind, haben die kritischen Fragen von Erich, berechtigt oder nicht, eine Antwort verdient. Oder nicht?
Oder könnte es gar sein, dass kein Schwein das Flyers Guestbook liest?
Das wäre wirklich schade, nur schon wegen Peter Crotons genialen Epen!

In honor of the Flyer’s great victory on September 24, 2011
The first game of the Finals
was a back and forth affair,
I enjoyed the show immensely
from the comfort of my chair.
The game began quite happily
with Lukas on the mound
striking out the first 3 batters
- they went down without a sound!
The Flyers came out charging
and young Hide got on base
then when JB hit the baseball
it disappeared without a trace!
The Cardinals 2nd inning
went by with no safe hits
their weakly batted balls dropped
into the Flyer’s mitts.
But in the Cardinals 4th
some of their hits went through
and at the end of that sad inning
they were winning 4 to 2!
But Kolli hit a double
that so nicely tied the score
it was only half-way over
and the game was 4 to 4!
But on Eiche’s honored birthday
he hit an important shot
he put the Flyers ahead for good
- that slugger-boy was hot!
But in the 8th the Cardinals
sleeping offence came alive
they then hit 2 straight doubles
and the score was 6 to 5!
And in the bottom of the 8th
the Cards began to moan
cause Adi got to 2nd
and our Seppi drove him home!
Then Hide hit a double
and 1st base was very free
they intentionally walked John Tucker
which was as dumb as dumb could be!
Cause up came Reto Siegel
with his legendary bat
he hit a 3-run homer
and baby, that was that!
And Kolli hit a homer
but I can’t remember when
cause with all the excitement
I couldn’t find my pen!
The final score: 15 to 5
isn’t what it seems
it was a hard-fought battle
and I congratulate both teams.

Es ist traurig zu beobachten, wie die Meisterschaft der Cadets kreuzschief lief. Das Beste (so habe ich es mitverfogen können) waren die Trainingseinheiten gewesen, welche jedoch tw. auch nicht allererste Sahne waren - der Trainingsfleiss schlug sich postwendend direkt auf die Leistungen an den Spielen hernieder, was die Jungs auch nicht sonderlich motivierte. Keine Spielberichte (oder doch, einer) waren auf der Vereinsseite zu finden, kein akutelles Mannschaftsfoto und was ganz arg war - kein einziger Motivationsspritzer auf der Vereins-Webseite. Scheinbar existieren hier auf der Website nur die aktiven Mannschaften. Wieso ist das so? Ich weiss, stänkern ist leicht und sich engagieren ist das andere. Doch sollte der Verein wirklich mal sich überlegen, wie und womit sie die vielen aktiven Spieler auch zu den Games motivieren kann - die Konkurrenz anderer Sportarten und Vereinen ist gross.
So, ich musst mir mal den sich aufgestauten Groll von der Seele schreiben.
Doch ich bin zuversichtlich, dass nächste Saison besser werden wird, denn wie hat Salvador Dali mal gesagt: "Am liebsten erinnere ich mich an die Zukunft".

The Flyers won the season
and I’m proud of them today;
in almost every case
they blew their Challengers away!
They attack the ball like Lions
every time they’re able,
they hunt down Barracudas
and eat them at the table!
And if they see some Mustangs
running slowly through the field,
they swoop down like young Eagles
oh, those horses’ fates are sealed!
The Flyers know their baseball
and commit no Cardinal sins,
they go into the playoffs now
with 6 and 20 wins!
They’re not like little Frogs
who just go hopping up and down,
they’ll fly out of October
with that golden BASEBALL CROWN!
